Declutter by Category
As Marie Condo suggests, start off by decluttering categories instead of rooms. This means you might want to start with your shoe collection before you start going room by room and decluttering in those. Get rid of any items in each category that you no longer use.
Purge any items you no longer need. Put all your clothing items in one pile and go through each item. You should toss or donate any clothing that no longer fit, is not your clothing style anymore, or you don’t use for whatever reason.
After you’ve finished purging your clothes, fold your clothes in your dresser instead of hanging them. When they are hung in your closet, they are constantly being moved and tossed around. In comparison, if they are folded in a dresser, they are easier to access and do not disturb other clothing items in your closet.
Nostalgia is often the reason why most people cling to their items. In turn, this just creates a lot of unnecessary items and clutter around your living area. When you are purging your items, don’t pay too much attention to sentimental items from your past. If these items belong to your significant others or children, keep them. If they belong to someone you haven’t spoken to or thought about in years, the safe choice is to purge it.
